Abstract:
In order to obtain a satisfactory functional and aesthetic outcome with an implant-supported prosthesis, the clinician who is practicing implant dentistry, should be aware of the complex relation that exists between the position of the implant, the condition of the surgical field and the selection of the prosthetic elements. With prosthetically induced implant placement the implants are placed according to the needs of the prosthetic phase of treatment and not exclusively according to bone availability. That is why successful and predictable outcomes can be accomplished if the optimal osseous dimensions are first reconstructed in order to obtain stability to an implant that is inserted with prosthetic guidance supporting ideal gingival profiles. In this literature review the different opinions which concern two major factors that significantly influence the outcome of implant therapy, are mentioned. These factors are the selection of the implant and its three-dimensional position.
